Anyone who has been around Jeff and I as a married couple for any length of time knows that the one thing we argue about is food.
He is a picky eater. I am a sensitive cook. Not a good combination at the dinner table.
It's actually become pretty comical and thank goodness we both have a pretty good sense of humor about it most of the time.
Tonight was a perfect example of what happens that causes us to argue and I just had to blog about it. This blog is one way of journaling for me, and I can't let this one by without our posterity being able to read about it someday.
So I made sugar cookies today. Lizette had a sleepover and I thought it would be fun for the girls to frost cookies tonight. I also have a book club tomorrow night and am in charge of the treat. Being that it's February, I figured heart shaped sugar cookies would be the perfect thing to take.
As I was making them, I frosted a couple and gave them to Jeff. After he had eaten one I asked him "How are the cookies?"
His response: "They're okaaay. Not my favorite."
In my mind: "Grrrrrrrrrrrr!" Blood is starting to boil. Nose nostrils flaring. Face turning red. I am about to explode. I had tried one. They were fine!
He immediately recognized that wasn't probably the best thing to say to me. And said "I mean they're good! Just a little sweet for me." Eventually saying that chocolate chip is his favorite, so he'll eat these, but he prefers chocolate chip.
Upon hearing his response, I walk over and snatch the second cookie from him. I'm thinking, "He's not going to eat any of these cookies after that comment!" I grab a bag of Oreos. "Here. Have these." I'm thinking,"My cookies aren't good enough for you! Eat the darn Oreos for crying out loud!" (By the way, I was not thinking 'darn' Oreos at that moment.)
Following this was an exchange of him apologizing and me telling him he should be more thoughtful and tactful. After my fuming was over, I was able to laugh about it.
But, can you see how ridiculous this problem is? I am soooo overly sensitive about everything he says about my cooking. And I think you would agree that he could stand to be a bit more tactful. :)
I wonder if we will still be having these little arguments when we are 80?
girl! I am totally busting up!!
ReplyDeletethat is hilarious!
and loved all of your "inside thoughts"
your posterity will TREASURE THIS!!
I agree that was too funny! I am sure your cookies were wonderful.
ReplyDeleteHe is such a RIGBY! He gets his non-filtered comments from my dad! And Brent is starting to develop them too...
ReplyDeleteI have to say I'm laughing because I've had EXACT conversations with Brent. Just SAY THEY'RE GOOD!!!!
Jackie, we too have these types of conversations in our home. My side and extra thoughts run the same way. Yes and probably at 80 you will still be having these little arguments! Your posterity and you will enjoy reading this later.
