Musings about Heaven

We ate at Red Robin a couple of weeks ago and Lizette got a balloon. It flew out the back window at our next stop and she was understandably upset. As we watched it float up I said, "Now some lucky little kid in heaven will get to have a balloon! Isn't that great?!" It cheered her up for the moment. A few days ago as she said our night time prayers she said, "We pray that the little kids in heaven will have fun with my red balloon." So sweet.

Heaven is apparently on her mind right now.

During dinner the other night she said "I wish I could go at heaven so I wouldn't have to eat any more dinner." Wow. The measures she is already willing to take to not have to eat my cooking.

Sucker Anyone?

I think this is so cute and funny. Mostly because she is just so cute eating this sucker. But partly because she looked so raggedy that day. Poor Lexi! She's probably just thankful that she at least has a sucker to enjoy. I hope spring gets here soon so she can start wearing some cuter clothes! :)

Jeff did some of his handy dandy video editing here and it turned out great.

I think I may just start feeding her suckers all the time. She seems pretty content!

Fun Times

I seem to be playing catch up a lot on my blog these days. It's actually a good thing that I haven't had as much time to blog lately. This time it means that we've been having lots of fun!

I'll start with a few pictures from the trip to Grandma and Grandpa's I mentioned in my last post. We had a great visit and the girls had so much fun.

Lexi's first haircut from Grandma. She looks a little worried. Actually, they both look a little worried. Turned out great though!

One thing about Grandma and Grandpa Rigby: They are never too busy to play with their grandkids. From sun up to sun down, when the grandkids are around, it is GO with a capital G!

The four ladies of the house ready to go to church.

Krispy Kreme and Firetrucks...

We've had two awesome preschool field trips recently. We went to Krispy Kreme several weeks ago. Last week we were able to tour the fire station on south Cole here in Boise. Very impressive. The kids were able to sit in the fire engine which was a treat. I sort of wanted to sit in it too, but I was too shy to ask. Maybe next year.

Gymnastics...

Lizette's first term of gymnastics ended in March. The class did a little presentation of their skills which was very fun to watch. Lizette has come a long way in a short time. She gets up on the balance beam on her own now and can walk across with no help. (I don't know if I was even able to do that in my middle school gymnastics PE unit, so I'm very proud of her! I hated gymnastics.) We signed her up for a second term and I think it will be very good for her to keep going with it for another couple of months.

Look at that straight leg. What great balance girl!

Climbs up to the bar on her own and swings. Big progress since the beginning of class!

Needs help on the beam when there are extra moves involved, but still doing awesome!

Cousin time...

A couple of weekends ago, Hilary and her kids came to town for a visit. We had such a great time! The girls loved having their cousins and Aunt Hilary and Grandma around. I just can't say enough how I lucked out with having the best in-laws. They are so great! I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of their visit.

This is the only picture I caught with my camera, but it's fitting because Lizette absolutely idolizes Madelyn. Whatever Madelyn was doing, she wanted to be doing. So glad she has so many great older cousins to look up to!

A few days later we were able to have Thayne and Angel's kids come over for a sleepover. Lizette was in hog heaven. Two major sleepover events with cousins within a week. Two words: Holy Cow!

Big girl...

Lizette took her first shower all by herself today. She did everything except for turning on the water. She's still a little nervous about getting it too hot or too cold. But shampoo, rinsing, soap and everything else she did all on her own. I had been having the girls bathe together which I thought would work out great for a while. But then Lexi's pooping in the tub incidents happened. Lizette was traumatized by the thought of getting in the tub with her sister and I can't say I blame her. She loves to shower so we went with that. And I figured she may as well learn to do it all by herself so I don't have to get sprayed every day as I help her rinse her hair. We have a good system down. She counts to 30 when she rinses her hair to make sure she gets all the shampoo out. Then all of her shampoo and soap are in pump dispensers to make it easier to handle.

Lexi is fascinated by the whole thing. She stood there and watched today and was so excited. They were both giggling and screaming and having the best time. Lexi tried to climb in a couple of times and join her.

Cutie pie...

My poor Lexi has gotten kind of a bad rap from me on this blog. Yes, she has definitely been a bit of a challenge for me from health issues to just about everything else. I keep thinking that I'm just not that great of mother or I would know how to handle this better. How to make her happy. How to teach her better behavior. How to do whatever it is that I'm not doing now. Well, we all know that every kid is different. I'm trying to not be so hard on myself. We'll get through it together. One day at a time.

I have noticed that it is easy for me to focus on the hard days rather than the good days. Lexi is a handful right now, but she is also a little sweetie. She loves to laugh and try to make us laugh. She loves to hug and play with her sister. She loves to be a helper. I think someday soon this strong personality of hers will prove to be her greatest asset.

Someone said to me the other day that they have three kids and all three have posed different challenges at different times of their lives. This really gave me some food for thought. Not all babies are "easy" babies. Some of those "easy" babies turn out to be tough in later years. You just never know what challenges will come with each stage. I think as parents we just have to do our best and pray a lot.

So Lexi, I'm sorry for complaining about some of the challenges I've had in raising you this first 18 months. You are a sweetheart and I love you dearly! You brighten our world and we all love you so, so much!
