I've been behind on my blogging lately due to an unfortunate cold that has landed at our house. First Lizette got it and now I have it. And on top of the cold, I have a migraine that won't go away. (Woe is me!)
It's never fun when kids are sick.
It's also not fun to try to take care of kids when you are sick yourself.
However, I must not complain. Other than the occasional cold or flu bug, we have our health. This is a great thing and we are thankful.
I really have nothing else to say. Sorry this is quite a boring post. Just wanted to let you know what we are up to in case you are wondering why all of my interesting blog posts have stopped. :)
By the way, I'm up to like 154 readers now. I know it's not a real number (see previous post), but I'm still pretending I have fans. Don't worry. I won't let this go to my head.

I guess I'm not so cool after all...
A few days ago I decided to install a hit counter on my blog. I thought it would be fun to find out how many people are reading about us. When you install the counter, you can choose whether you want it to count total hits or just new visitors. I chose new visitors in case some people might hit my blog more than once in a while.
Well, as the weekend progressed I was shocked to see the number going up way higher than I anticipated. After counting up my sisters, sister-in-laws, mother-in-law, and friends, I had expected maybe a dozen visitors to our blog. At last count it was 68!
Being the humble person that I am, I thought "Wow! People must really like reading about us!" I told Jeff that I couldn't believe we had so many fans.
And then this morning my entire dream of winning blog awards and becoming famous vanished in an instant. Jeff informed me that every time he hit the refresh button on his iPad, my hit counter would go up. We tested it out and each time he opened up my blog on his iPad, the same thing happened. I'm guessing that's the case with other readers as well.
The funny thing is, I was feeling so full of myself for having 68 readers when other personal blogs similar to ours get hundreds and thousands of visitors.
Oh well.
I'm still going to pretend I have fans.

New Family Portraits

In a few weeks we are going to have family photos taken by our favorite photographer, Shandy. We thought we would do a warm up session so we will be prepared.

And So It Begins...
For the last couple of months, Jeff and I have been working really hard together at eating better and losing weight. I've been wanting to get in better shape, have more energy and fit comfortably again into my pre-pregnancy clothes. Jeff also wanted to fit into his pre-pregnancy clothes. Pre-Lizette pregnancy to be exact.
The good news is...we've both done great! He has lost almost 20 pounds total in the last year (12 pounds of it in the last couple of months). I have lost almost 10 pounds in the past two months, and have been walking consistently and I feel great.
The bad news is...we are entering Halloween season! How am I supposed to practice any self control with so much candy readily available to me?
I've made it a practice for the past few years to try to buy a bag of candy every week or two in the couple of months leading up to Halloween. We live in a huge subdivision with tons of trick-or-treaters and we could easily spend over $100 on Halloween candy. So, I try to space it out a little to make it easier on the budget. I typically store the candy away in the pantry and don't open the bags until Halloween.
This year DISASTER has struck. I opened a bag of Butterfingers so that I could give a few away in a thank you gift. I may as well have started myself an IV of chocolate right then because I cannot stay away from those things. Here is the latest victim:

I even put them in a plastic grocery sack and tied it up really tight so that I would not be able to get into them as easily. That didn't work out so well.
The next afternoon I was like a crazed maniac as I snuck into the pantry and fought with the bag until finally I got it open and was able to get my fix. Here is the plastic bag. You may not be able to tell from the picture, but it's not tied so tight any more. I've been into it several times.

Darn you Butterfingers! You are totally going to ruin my diet. All of my hard work thrown away because you taste so delicious. Mmmmm.....
I think I better go. I think I hear, um, Lexi crying or something. What? You think I'm actually going to go eat another Butterfinger right now?
You're right!
I think I might need help.

My Mac Daddy
Have I mentioned before how much Jeff likes Apple products? Mac computers, iPhones, iPads and anything else that Apple comes out with are usually on Jeff's want list. He truly has a passion for this technology.
Some women call themselves "football widows" during this time of year. Yes, Jeff likes to watch football, but never to the point of me feeling like I'm left behind for the weekend. Do you know when I become a widow? Every six months or so when Apple comes out with a new product and Steve Jobs gives a keynote address. Jeff becomes like a kid in a candy store.
Well, he truly can be like a kid in a candy store now, because Apple just opened a store in Boise! Jeff and his buddy were some of the first ones in line when it opened. They even got free t-shirts for being one of the first 1000 customers. Woo hoo!
"Boom Shake It!"
(One of Jeff's favorite things to say when he's excited.)

I am excited for him. I don't mind his passion for Apple products at all. They actually are really nice to have around and I think it's fun to watch him get so excited about them.
And, this could be a good thing for Mrs. Rigby too. You see, the Apple store is in the mall. Jeff never liked going to the mall before. Things are different now. Oh yes, I see much shopping in my future. Thank you Apple!

Tender Mercies
Lexi and I had a bit of trauma today at church. I gave her a peanut butter sandwich cracker to chew on during Sacrament Meeting. Immediately after she ate the cracker some little welts showed up on her mouth and hand. I took her out and after a few minutes the welts started to go away, but she began to get abnormally fussy. I could tell something wasn't right, but wasn't sure what to do. I walked her through the halls a bit and she seemed to calm down some.
Just as Sacrament was about to let out, she threw up all over her, me and the carpet. And we were standing directly in front of one of the doors to the chapel. I was immediately a wreck. I grabbed all the wipes I had and started cleaning up her and the carpet. Meanwhile, my skirt was drenched and dripping all over the place. When Sacrament Meeting was over I opened the door and yelled for Jeff to come help me. It all seems a blur now.
Well, these things happen all the time, don't they? We've all had these moments of panic. It's in these moments that I believe the tender mercies of the Lord are most noticeable.
As soon as Lexi started throwing up, two people ran to get paper towels to help me. They could see my obvious panic and need for help. To them it was instinctive to run and help.
Then, as I sat down on the sofa to console Lexi, Jeff began cleaning up the huge mess we had left. Almost immediately, a friend of his was right there to help him.
Two seconds later, sweet Tiffany Beath, said without hesitation, "Jackie, do you want me to take your primary class for you?" Whew! One less worry as I knew I had to get us home.
Then the tears started welling up in my eyes and I knew that this was going to be a cry that I could not stop. I felt so bad for Lexi. I felt so bad for giving her those crackers without even thinking. I felt so bad that we had made such a mess of things at church and people were having to help clean up after us. Just then, the sweetest lady who had brought me some paper towels earlier sat down next to me and gave me a hug. I had never met her before. She just knew that at that moment I needed some consoling. I really needed that hug right then. I really needed all the help that I was given.
What happened wasn't the end of the world or even a big deal. But it's in these moments that we are reminded of the goodness of others and the love that the Lord has for us.
I'm thankful for those who helped us today. I'm thankful to know that God loves me and has people around me to help in my times of need, whether big or small.
I'm thankful for tender mercies.
