Haircut Day

Today was Lizette's first professional haircut. Our appointment was at 5:30 this evening, so we made a girls night out of it and went to dinner afterward. It was so fun to have some one-on-one time with her. Here are few pictures from our evening:

She looks thrilled doesn't she?

Trying to see what is going on...

Finished product from the back...very cute! (Nice photography, huh?)

She did great during the haircut. Although, she was very quiet the whole time. I think she wasn't quite sure what to think. My hairstylist, Lisa, gave her the cutest little 'bob' cut and Lizette has been acting very sassy since we left the salon. I always act a little more sassy after I get a haircut too!

We ate dinner at Shari's and couldn't have asked for a better evening.

She loved the smiley face pancakes, even though it was melted by the time we got it.

It was so exciting to get ice cream with sprinkles!

What a fun night we had!

Jeff also got a hair cut today. A #3 cut with the trimmer. How easy would that be?!! Lookin' good honey!

And, not to be outdone...Lexi also has a new look. We got her some of those cute crocheted headbands, which completes her already 'hip' style. :)

American Idol

I've never been one to deny myself of a few guilty pleasures. Diet Coke, way too many Food Network and HGTV shows, clearance sales, chocolate peanut butter ice cream. However, there is one that is staring me in the face tonight and I really don't want to give in to it!

"Da da da da da da da da da da daaaa...." (Are you catching that tune?)

After watching almost every episode last season, I promised myself I wouldn't do it again. I don't even want to think about how many hours I spent in front of the TV when I could have been reading, exercising...anything else!

And here we are again.

The season premiere is tonight. Jeff is watching.

"Da da da da da da da da da da daaaa....."

How can I help myself from watching these people go in front of the judges? Yes, there are the completely untalented who we laugh at and can't believe they have the nerve to sing at all.

Then there are the truly talented who have dreamed of this day forever. I often cry when they run out of the audition room and hug their families when they've been given the news, "Your going to Hollywood!" I'm tearing up right now just thinking about it.

Oh my.

And my temptation to watch is heightened even more by my curiosity as to how Ellen will do as a judge.

I don't think I'm a strong enough person to resist.

"Da da da da da da da da da da daaaa....."

Gotta go...it's on!

Baby Boot Camp Update

Okay, I think I can do this. The first few days have been BRUTAL! I've cried. I've sworn. I've wanted to run out the door. But, we are surviving!

Lexi still cries, but she is learning to settle herself down some. I've put her down a few times now when she's been already very tired or even asleep and she has stayed asleep for her entire nap time. I probably cheated on the Babywise theory a bit by waiting until she was asleep, but I still think that is major progress. It used to be that she would either wake up immediately or a half hour into her nap. It's still a little hit and miss, but I really think it's getting better. We are getting very close to being on a consistent schedule. Yippee!!

This is just one more thing that reminds me that some things in life sound like they shouldn't be so bad, but they can be really tough. I need to remember this next time someone is sharing a trial with me.

Signing off for now. Just wanted to write out my update because it is nice to write some positive news about this topic!

P.S. I think I should get a present for going through this.

It's great to have friends!

I just wanted to write a quick entry to thank my friend Shandy for a wonderful thing she did for me yesterday. I heard a knock on my door about 9:00 a.m. and she was there to offer to babysit my girls so that I could have a break from my baby boot camp this week. (She read my entry from a couple of days ago.)

I usually have a hard time accepting help from anyone, but I was happy to accept her help yesterday! She brought her kids over and watched my girls while I was able to go out and do some long awaited coupon shopping. I was seriously almost in tears as I walked up and down the aisles peacefully, landing some great coupon deals.

The kicker is that Shandy is probably one of the busiest moms I know! And she has the most upbeat attitude ever.

Thanks Shandy...not only for watching my girls, but also for being such a great example to me! I hope your Shandyness rubs off on me. You're awesome!

Multi-tasking

I love that Lizette is already learning to multi-task. A true woman!

A test of wills...

Lexi is a sweetie. I love her to pieces. She has many great qualities. However, I think she has it out for me.

I don't think she is a colicky baby, but she is very demanding. (I wonder where she gets that from.) Our tough time is not at night. She actually sleeps great at night. It's the days we struggle with. She does not like to nap and she doesn't like to be left with anyone else. This makes it difficult for mommy to get any kind of a break. Jeff was saying the other day that he can take over so that I can have a day trip somewhere on my own. Day trip? Whos' asking for a day trip? I would just love to go to Wal-Mart in peace at this point! If I take her with me, she cries. If I leave her home, she cries for Jeff the whole time. I don't handle this kind of stress very well.

So, I dusted off my Babywise book and decided to get serious this week. We are doing baby boot camp.

I'm pretty wimpy about letting her cry herself to sleep. I was the same way with Lizette and remember realizing that this was the only way to get her on a schedule. Yesterday was day one of NOT holding her for most of the day, rocking her to sleep, and running in to calm her every time she cried.

I just fed her, kept her up for a little while for playtime and then put her down for a nap. No rocking, no binky, just bed.

How did it go, you ask? The first nap, she cried for an hour and a half, pretty much non stop. The second nap was no better...almost two straight hours of crying. I did go in periodically to pat her, and reassure her that I was there and everything. By the end of the second nap, she had actually fallen asleep. I could still hear her whimpering in her sleep though. When I went in to pick her up. She had her entire fist in her mouth. Oh my. We'll see how today goes.

Fun in the snow

Lizette absolutely loves playing in the snow. What kid doesn't?! I love to watch her excitement as we get her all bundled up and head out. I took her out the other day and built a snowman and Jeff had to one-up me the next day with his snowman. :) Hopefully, he can get her out to go sledding one of these weekends. She loved that last year.
